 Our Military and all of their family members made plenty of sacrifices while in service before returning to civilian life to become an integral part of our society that owns nearly 2.5M businesses in the United States, employ more than 5M people and generate more than $1T in sales and receipts annually. As a small thanks for their service we have compiled a list of organizations and initiatives resources that are dedicated to helping the whole military family.  We will continuously expand this glossary of valuable tools and organizations, so if you have recommendations for organizations, online communities, or tools that we should include, we welcome your ideas here
National Association of County Veterans Service Officers: Pursues all, benefits for veterans and eligible family members through education, training and advocacy programs. Learn more here

American Legion: provides assistance to severely injured servicemen and women via their Heroes to Hometown program. Through this program, service members can receive temporary financial assistance, pro-bono financial planning, housing assistance, home and vehicle adaptation and government claims assistance. Disabled American Veterans (DAV): is a non-profit organization that offers free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. Services include transition assistance, disability evaluation and benefits claim assistance, homeless veterans assistance and much more. Disabled Veterans Associations (DVA) a self-help and referral service that helps Veterans with access to information and forms needed to file VA claims and refers Veterans to Veteran Service Organizations (VSO's) close to them. (DVA) provides a free crisis helpline to provide veterans and their family members with crisis intervention, emotional support, community referrals, and educational information. The helpline is available by calling 1-866-331-1944. DVA also offers periodic Veterans Entrepreneurial Training Seminars (V.E.T.S.) for veterans looking to start their own small business, or those who already own a business. Via their Helping and Assisting Veterans in Emergency (H.A.V.E.) they work with county service officers and other agencies to assist veterans on a short-term basis. Learn more here

Enable America via their VetConnect program assists wounded and disabled veterans re-acclimate to their communities and, ultimately, to the workforce. One aspect of this program pairs recently wounded veterans with similarly wounded peer mentors who have completed or are completing the recovery process. They also connect veterans to agencies and organizations that can help them adapt everyday routines to their disability, enable them to further their education or vocational training, help them secure jobs with government and private employers, or return to active duty. Purple Hearts Reunited is the only organization in the country returning lost or stolen medals to veterans and military families at no cost. Purple Hearts Reunited has returned the service medals of more than 400 veterans and is currently working on returning hundreds of medals that need a home. Learn more here


Veteran Success Resource Group (VSRG) Provide highly - interactive and full-spectrum Veteran resource expo events that are free of charge to Veterans, service members, National Guardsmen and Reservists, family members and caregivers. VSRG brings to local Veteran communities a wide array of medium and large businesses, universities, government agencies and Veteran service organizations, all of which provide services or employment opportunities for Veterans and their families. Learn more here

American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial: The Memorial shines a light on the important lessons of courage, sacrifice, tenacity, loyalty and honor by bearing witness to the experiences of war heroes who were disabled as a result of military service. It is the first national memorial dedicated solely to disabled veterans, paying tribute to the hidden and visible disabilities from all conflicts and all branches of service. Learn more here

Families4Veterans-Directory is a one stop directory committed to helping Veterans to find reputable help and services online. As well as running an Armed Forces and Veterans directory, the focal point being the VETNET. You will have the ability to comment on your experiences after dealing with groups and pages from the site so that fellow Veterans can choose from the best.
